According to the South China Morning Post, Remi Lucidi was last spotted on Thursday tapping on the window of a penthouse on the 68th floor of the 721ft (219m) Tregunter Tower.
A maid in the building is believed to have phoned police after seeing the 30-year-old outside the window, where Mr Lucidi presumably sought to seek help before falling.
According to police, the daredevil, who goes by the alias Remi Enigma on social media, had collapsed before authorities arrived.
Mr Lucidi's sports camera, which held recordings of extreme activities, and his French ID card were apparently discovered at the scene.Police said a 30-year-old man's body was discovered on a patio in the city's Mid-Levels neighborhood, but they did not reveal his identification.
"A preliminary investigation suggested that the man was an extreme sports enthusiast," a source told the news outlet.
"It's possible he got stuck outside the penthouse while practicing."
On CCTV, he was seen leaving the lift on the 49th level and again on the staircase to the top floor, where a door had been pushed open.
According to the South China Morning Post, he was last seen by a maid at 7.30 p.m. tapping on a penthouse window.
Mr Lucidi last posted on Instagram on July 24, with a picture of Hong Kong's Times Square from the top of a tower.

Mr Lucidi has previously taken photos of himself atop large buildings in Paris, Dubai, and Thailand, among other places.Other urban explorers paid tribute to Mr Lucidi in Instagram pictures, with one writing: "Rip brother. Nobody wants to hear about the death of a fellow explorer."

Tregunter Towers is made up of three towers.The third tower, Tregunter 3, was previously the tallest all-residential structure in the world until it was surpassed in 2001 by the Trump World Tower in New York.
