Robert Budd Dwyer was treasurer of Pennsylvania State. He was particularly popular outside of Pennsylvania as well. His violent death took place in the most public place imaginable, a press conference. On Jan 15, 1987, the acting treasurer of Pennsylvania State, Robert Budd Dwyer held a meeting at his home. Along with him, his secretary James Horshock and deputy treasurer Don Johnson were also sitting with him to discuss his recent legal issues as Robert Budd Dwyer was found guilty of receiving bribery. The acting Pennsylvania State Treasure Robert Budd Dwyer was about to get sentenced in a few days on convictions related to bribery but he was still adamant about his innocence which he also maintained during the trial and investigation. Both Johnson and Horshock left Budd Dwyer’s home that evening assuming that he would resign at the press conference on January 22 after making one last statement of innocence and pleading for mercy in front of the media. Budd’s sentence was scheduled for Jan 23, 1987. But a day earlier than his sentence, he contemplated his future and scribbled his thoughts on paper. He wrote, “I enjoy being with Jo so much, the next 20 years or so would have been wonderful. Tomorrow is going to be so difficult and I hope I can go through with it.” The next morning, the press conference in Harrisburg began with a statement that left no one with any idea they were about to watch R.
